Def.: “Human”, homo sapiens sapiens: kind of mammal that likes to think of its verticality, its erection and productivity as specialities. In fact, most of them sleep horizontally aligned and like to cuddle as curved, big and small spoonies.

It has something of the silent eeriness with which we grow older. Tacit yet omnipresent. In this work, four dancers pay tribute to the legacy that verticality has had in western dance techniques. They also search and find joint and personal ways to answer drastically threatening cuts in dance funding, to the (post) pandemic condition and to joyfully accompany the farewell of straightness. When and how is a collapse the end of a movement? This question is also a score the dancers and the musician have been working
with.

Draw a human in your mind. Rather quickly.

Many people draw and think of humans as a straight line standing on two feet. So do I. But not all humans stand all the time. For example, when they sleep or when they cuddle they don ́t stand straightened up. In this dance piece, there are four dancers. They rise and fall, they twist and turn their bodies. Some of them have learnt how to dance and hold their bodies straight. But they also support and hold each other. They dance for you. This is also their job. But politicians decided now that dancers should get little to no money. How does this change their dance? How will they keep moving after they fall? The dancers asked and answered this question with their bodies. The person who made the song in
the piece also used that question to compose the song.
